This post will provide a list of different types of files. As well on a short blurb on how to use them.
*Note I will only go over the most common files in this list*

Half Round
This file is very versatile. It features a round and flat edge (hence the name). The round edge is perfect for getting the inside of rings while the flat slide is good for mostly everything else. I do about 85% of all my filling with this type of file. And if you are on a very tight budget, you could definitely get away with only owning this file in two different sizes (1 small to get into tiny spaces and 1 Medium large size).
Round This file is often tapered to get into a variety of different openings. It is mostly used for circles or other round objects Flat This file can be double or single sided and may or may not feature a tapered look. It is used for flattening and not much else.
Square
A square file obviously features four sides. It does not tend to be sloping and it is typically small in comparison to standard hand files. It can be used as a flat file, to get a flat surface or as a way to make a right angle. Three Square File This file is basically a triangle I don't know why they do not call it that but..🤷🏾♀️.
